Client Income Generating Activities (CIGAS)
Elizabeth Njeri Kuruswe, a single mother of five from Kihoto, is a shining example of how sustainable community-based projects can transform lives.
Elizabeth’s life took a turn for the better when she became an active participant in the Town Support Group. Through this group, she gained not only emotional support but also the resources she needed to turn her life around.
In 2022, she received a gift—a dairy goat. Before this, providing for her children was a daily struggle. But today, her story is one of progress and empowerment.
With the initial goat she received, Elizabeth has built a small herd. The goats have since multiplied, and their milk has become both a source of nutrition for her family and a steady income stream. The goat gave birth four times, including two sets of twins and two sets of triplets. She was able to sell three male and two female goats once they matured, and with the money from these sales, one of her children is now attending college—an achievement made possible through the income generated by the goat project.
The manure from her livestock is a precious resource that enriches her farm’s soil, increasing productivity. Two of her other children are in high school, supported by the sales of goats, while the youngest two are in primary school, ensuring that all five children are on the path to a better future.
In addition to the goat project, Elizabeth is also a proud beneficiary of the tank project. Access to a reliable water source has significantly improved her household’s hygiene and convenience. With surplus water from her tank, she earns additional income by selling water to her neighbors—an initiative that has further strengthened her financial independence.
Last year, Elizabeth received two chickens, which have since reproduced. She now has chicks and is passionate about expanding her poultry venture, with a focus on developing a sustainable egg-laying project in the near future.
Elizabeth’s story is one of resilience, determination, and transformation. Through the dedicated work of ASN Upendo Village, women like Elizabeth are not just surviving—they are thriving, building legacies for their children and inspiring others in their community to believe in the power of hope and hard work.
It is our hope that more clients get empowered and become self-dependent, breaking the cycle of poverty.
